Presidential election in Finland 1982

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The 1982 presidential election in Finland took place on January 17 and January 18, 1982 .

Since the previous President Urho Kekkonen resigned from the Center Party for health reasons, the elections were brought forward. The Social Democrat Mauno Koivisto won over 43% of the vote in the elections to the Electoral Committee. Since Kalevi Kivistö had asked his party's electors to vote for Koivisto, which most of them did, he was elected president in the first ballot.
