Parliamentary election in Finland 1995
The 1995 parliamentary elections in Finland took place on March 19, 1995. It was the election for the 32nd Finnish Parliament .
The parties of the center-right government that had previously ruled under Prime Minister Esko Aho , especially the Center Party, suffered losses. The Social Democrats, with Paavo Lipponen as the top candidate, gained six percentage points and, with the best results of the post-war period, were again the strongest force ahead of the Center Party and the conservative rallying party.
Of the smaller parties, the Land Party of Finland (SMP) lost the most. From 1995 onwards, the SMP was represented by only one mandate holder in the Finnish Reichstag. The left alliance gained easily and became the fourth strongest force. The Liberal People's Party lost its mandate while the liberal virgins managed to move in with two mandates. In addition to the Green Bund, the Ecological Party also received a seat.
After the election, Paavo Lipponen became Prime Minister. He led the so-called Rainbow Coalition of Social Democrats, Conservatives, Finland-Swedes, Leftists and Greens.
