The Liberals in Åland ( Swedish Liberalerna på Åland , abbreviation Lib ) are a liberal party that is active in the autonomous Finnish province of Åland . Since the parliamentary elections in Åland in 2015 , the Liberals have been the strongest political force in Åland and, with around 650 members and departments in all 16 municipalities, also have the most members of the Åland parties.
history
Before the parliamentary elections in Åland in 1979 , the LoS Liberals ( Swedish LoS-Liberalerna ) joined forces with the Central Liberals ( Swedish Mittenliberalerna ) to form the Liberals in Åland. The center liberals themselves were founded in 1968 and are the most important predecessor party of today's liberals in Åland. The LoS liberals, on the other hand, were a split from the electoral union of rural areas and islands ( Swedish Landsbygdens och skärgårdens valförbund , abbreviation LoS ) that only emerged in 1975 and participated in the establishment of the Åland Center in 1976 .
Between 1983 and 2003 Gunnar Jansson was a member of the Liberals in Åland in the Finnish Parliament for 20 years . In the parliamentary elections in Åland 2007 , the Liberals in Åland achieved their best result of 10 seats since then and together with the Åland Center formed the government. In Åland's parliamentary elections in 2011 , however, the party suffered a major setback by reducing its number of seats by 4 to 6. In the parliamentary elections in Åland 2015 , she only improved her result by one seat to seven seats, but since then she has once again been the head of government with Katrin Sjögren in a coalition with the Moderate Collection for Åland and Åland's Social Democrats .
Alignment
The Liberals in Åland see themselves as a classic liberal party. The basic idea is free enterprise with as little state intervention as possible. In particular, the tax pressure on companies is to be reduced. In return, the existing tax revenue must be used responsibly and sparingly. Therefore, the party believes in the strength of individuals who can coordinate their lives without government assistance. Despite all of this, society has a responsibility to iron out inequalities. The basis for such a social order is liberal democracy , justice and equal treatment . According to the party, the tasks of the state are limited to the provision of a good infrastructure , a good health system , fair competition and the instigation of sustainable action. In this way, the freedom of the individual can be guaranteed and the profitability of the company can be improved.
