Municipal council elections

In all 16 Åland municipalities, new municipal councils were elected on the same election day. A personality choice is used. Within an electoral list , the voter can elect certain people and thus decide on the entry of specific people and does not have to accept the order of the electoral list. In the smaller municipalities, all candidates often appear on a list from which the voter can choose his candidate and then the candidates from the list with the most votes are called in. These candidates from municipalities with unit lists are listed as non-party, although there are also party members, but not under the name of their party. In addition to the more or less non-party unit lists in small communities, there are also non-party groups of voters in Eckerö and Sund , whereupon non- party candidates ran against party lists. Thus, on the one hand, non-party voters actually mean groups of voters as well as unit lists with party members and non-party members.
