The Lagting ( Swedish Lagtinget ) is the parliament of the autonomous Finnish province of Åland with its seat in Mariehamn . The Lagting has 30 seats. Roger Nordlund ( Åland Center ) was elected President of Parliament in November 2019 .

history

The first elections were held in Åland in 1922, and the Åland Parliament, then called Landsting , met for the first time on June 9, 1922 . Since then, June 9 has been a public holiday in Åland .

Seat

The Lagting is based in Mariehamn . The parliament building was designed by the Finnish architect Helmer Stenros and opened in 1978. The interior was mainly planned by the designer Pirkko Stenros and is furnished with furniture by the architects Yrjö Kukkapuro and Alvar Aalto . The original interior has largely been preserved.
