The 1979 parliamentary elections in Åland , a region of Finland with political autonomy, took place on October 20, 1979.

The center won the election. This party was newly formed from the Land and Schärgarten Electoral Association (LOS). In the new state parliament, the center received 14 of the 30 seats. The Liberals became the second strongest force. This party emerged in 1978 from the merger of LOS liberals and the liberals of the center .

There were only two women among the 30 MPs, the same number as in the previous term.

Electoral system

The 30 members of the Lagting were elected by proportional representation , with the seats being determined using the D'Hondt method .
