Yrjö Kukkapuro
Yrjö Kukkapuro (born April 6, 1933 in Wiborg , Karelia ) is a Finnish interior and furniture designer.
Life
Kukkapuro studied at the Art Academy in Helsinki from 1950 . The most famous piece of furniture he designed is the Karuselli armchair ( German carousel ) from 1964, which was used as a prop in 1965 during the filming of the German science fiction television series Raumpatrouille - The Fantastic Adventures of the Orion Spaceship . The seating furniture was included in the collection of the Museum of Modern Art in New York. In 1974 it was nominated by the New York Times as the most comfortable seating in the world.
From 1974 to 1980 he was professor at the University of Art, Design and Architecture in Helsinki and from 1978 to 1980 its rector .
Private
Kukkapuro has been born with the graphic designer Irmeli Kukkapuro since 1954. Salminen married. The couple built a studio in Kauniainen in 1968 based on plans by civil engineer Eero Paloheimo, which is entirely in the style of Pop Art .
