Kumlinge is a municipality and a place in the autonomous Finnish province ( Finnish : Lääni ) Åland . The municipality is located on a group of islands in the east of the province between the municipalities of Sottunga in the southwest and Brändö in the northeast. The population lives on the four islands of Kumlinge, Enklinge, Seglinge and Björkö. Kumlinge has 315 inhabitants (as of December 31, 2018) and an area of 99.77 square kilometers. As in all of Åland, Swedish is the official language. The St. Anne Church in Kumlinge dates from the end of the 15th century.
economy
The population of Kumlinge is predominantly medium-sized , many residents are active in the transport and ferry business. In contrast, the traditional trades of agriculture and fishing on the islands of the municipality are now of little importance. Today fishing is largely only practiced on a small scale as a leisure activity in the context of tourism , which in turn is one of the most important sources of income today.
There is full employment in the community , the unemployment rate was officially reported in January 2007 as 0 percent.
traffic
Kumlinge can be reached by ferry from Långnäs in Lumparland , from Hummelvik in Vårdö and from mainland Finland from Kustavi via Brändö . Kumlinge has the only airfield in the Finnish archipelago.
