from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Prohibition Referendum in Finland took place on December 29th and December 30th, 1931 .

Prohibition has been in force in Finland since 1919. As in other countries that had prohibition, it was mainly carried by the women's movement.

The vote resulted in a clear rejection of prohibition. Of the women voting, only a third were in favor of maintaining prohibition. As a result of the vote, prohibition was lifted in 1932 and the state-controlled alcohol monopoly Alko was founded. Until today (2014) it has a monopoly on the sale of beverages with an alcohol content of over 4.7%.
