Parliamentary election in Finland 1975
The parliamentary elections in Finland in 1975 took place on September 21 and 22, 1975. It was the election of the 27th Finnish parliament .
After the resignation of the Social Democrat Kalevi Sorsa, President Urho Kekkonen ordered new elections. The big loser in the election was the Rural Party of Finland (SMP), which won 18 seats in 1970 and held them in the 1972 elections. In 1975 she lost 16 of her seats. All other parties, with the exception of the Swedish People's Party and the Social Democratic Party, which nonetheless remained the strongest force, won seats.
Starting position
The oil crisis that has raged since 1974 put the Finnish economy to the test. Inflation and unemployment rose and economic growth slow. After Kalevi Sorsa's resignation, the Sorsa I cabinet was followed by a transitional government under Prime Minister Keijo Liinamaa .

After the election
Martti Miettunen from the Center Party formed a grand coalition after the election, which had a large three-quarters majority in parliament. In September 1976 the coalition disintegrated and Miettunen formed a government without the left parties. However, the government only had 58 elected officials behind it. In May 1977, Kalevi Sorsa of the Social Democratic Party finally formed a government that included the same parties as Miettunen's government after the election.
