Claes Andersson
Claes Johan Rudolf Andersson (born May 30, 1937 in Helsinki ; † July 24, 2019 ) was a Finnish-Swedish writer , doctor, politician and jazz musician .
Life
Andersson studied medicine and specialized in psychiatry . He worked as a department doctor in the Tammiharju Hospital from 1962 to 1967, in the Hesperia Hospital from 1967 to 1969 and as a senior physician in the Veikkola Sanatorium from 1969 to 1973. His writing career began in 1962 with the collection of poems Ventil . In total, his oeuvre includes more than twenty collections of poetry , audio plays and plays, as well as some prose works . His work has been translated and published in seven languages. In them, Andersson exercises social criticism , names human and social inadequacies, often accentuated with medical details.
Andersson was also politically active. From 1987 to 1999 and 2007 to 2008 he sat in the Finnish Reichstag , first for the Democratic Union of the Finnish People and then for the Left Alliance , of which he was chairman from 1990 to 1998. As a candidate in the 1994 presidential election , he received 3.8 percent of the vote. From April 13, 1994 to September 4, 1998 he was Minister of Culture in the first government of Paavo Lipponen . In 2008 he left the Reichstag for health reasons.
Andersson was also a talented jazz pianist. He has released several records and lived in Espoo until his death in July 2019 .
