Municipal council
As in most rural areas of Finland, the peasant-liberal Center Party is the strongest party in Tuusniemi . In the 2012 local elections, despite losses, it achieved an absolute majority in the council with 45% of the vote and 11 out of 21 MPs. The Social Democrats make up the second largest group with three seats. In addition, the conservative National Collection Party , the right-wing populist True Finns and the Left Alliance are each represented with two mandates on the municipal council. The Christian Democrats have a representative.
