Keitele [ ˈkɛitɛlɛ ] is a municipality in the Finnish region of Savo with around 2,700 inhabitants. It is located in the west landscape of Northern Savo, 82 km southwest of Iisalmi and 100 km northwest of Kuopio . The distance to the capital Helsinki is 430 km.

In addition to the community center, Keitele also includes the villages of Hamula, Koutajärvi, Kukertaja, Leppäselkä, Sulkavanjärvi, Tossavanlahti, Viinikkala, Vuonamo and Äyräpää. Almost a fifth of the community area is covered by water. The largest lakes are Nilakka and Koutajärvi .

Municipal council
The strongest political force in Keitele is the rural-liberal Center Party . She received half of the votes in the 2017 local elections. In the municipal council, the highest decision-making body in local affairs, it has an absolute majority with ten out of 19 members. The two other major parties in the country, the Social Democrats and the National Collection Party, play a smaller role than in other regions of Finland with two seats and one seat respectively on the municipal council. The right-wing populist True Finns with three seats, the Left Alliance with two seats and the Christian Democrats with one seat are also represented on the municipal council .
