Georg Maurer (writer)
Georg Maurer (born March 11, 1907 in Reghin ( Sächsisch Regen ), Transylvania , Kingdom of Hungary , † August 4, 1971 in Potsdam ) was a German poet, essayist and translator. He also wrote under the pseudonyms Juventus , murus and Johann Weilau .
Life
Maurer, born on March 11, 1907 as the son of a teacher in Transylvania , came to Germany in 1926. He studied art history, German literature and philosophy in Leipzig and Berlin until 1932 . He was a soldier in World War II . Since 1955 he was a lecturer, later professor at the Institute for Literature "Johannes R. Becher" , where he had a significant influence on the authors of the Saxon Poet School of poets such as Volker Braun , Sarah and Rainer Kirsch or Karl Mickel .
