Walter Asam

Walter Asam (born October 18, 1926 in Augsburg ; † March 11, 2002 ) was a German administrative lawyer and local politician.

Career

Asam first attended elementary school in Aichach from 1933 to 1937 and then from 1937 to 1944 the grammar school in Wasserburg a. Inn and in Munich . In 1947 he began studying law at the Ludwig Maximilians University in Munich , which he completed in 1951 with the first state examination in law. Asam completed his legal preparatory service from 1951 to 1954 at the Augsburg Regional Court and the Munich Higher Regional Court . In 1955 he passed the second state examination in law. In 1956 he joined the Bavarian State Administration. As a legal civil servant, Asam worked at the district offices in Landau ad Isar , Pfaffenhofen ad Ilm and Schrobenhausen . In 1957 he received his doctorate from the law faculty of the Ludwig Maximilians University in Munich on the subject of "real and false official offenses".

Political career

In May 1961, Asam was elected district administrator of the Upper Bavarian district of Schrobenhausen with 98.6 percent of the vote. At the age of 34 he was the youngest district administrator in the Upper Bavaria administrative region. In 1967 he was re-elected. On June 11, 1972, the CSU politician was elected the first district administrator of the Neuburg-Schrobenhausen district, which was newly founded as part of the district reform, with 63.9 percent of the vote. In the local elections in 1984 he no longer ran as district administrator and resigned from office on April 30, 1984. His successor was Richard Keßler (politician) Richard Keßler . As a district councilor, Asam was a member of the Neuburg-Schrobenhausen district council until 1996.
