Werner "Acker" Weist (born March 11, 1949 in Dortmund ; † May 13, 2019 there ) was a German football player . From 1968 to 1977 he made 217 games and 87 goals in the Bundesliga at the clubs Borussia Dortmund and Werder Bremen .

Life

Werner Weist moved in his hometown from SV 08 Dortmund (district league) to the ball game club Borussia in the Bundesliga in the summer of 1968 and thus skipped eight leagues. In the spring of 1968 he had completed a trial training at 1. FC Nürnberg and also received a contract offer from the club, but BVB was made aware of him through targeted newspaper reports. On September 7th, Weist made his first appearance at the home game against Hamburger SV . He contributed the 1-0 to the later 3-1 victory after just 120 seconds. In the first season at Borussia Dortmund he had recognized Bundesliga players with Lothar Emmerich , Sigfried Held , Willi Neuberger , Dieter Kurrat , Reinhold Wosab and Rudi Assauer , but it was barely enough to stay in the league. In the first season he was in 17 games for Dortmund on the field and contributed seven hits to keep the league.

Despite the difficult conditions in his debut year, the twenty-year-old center forward scored 20 goals in his second season in 1969/70 and Borussia landed in 5th place in the final table. The press compared him to Gerd Müller . His importance this season can also be seen in the hit rate of the second best Dortmund shooter: Reinhold Wosab scored nine goals. Due to financial constraints, Dortmund had to let the young scorer move to SV Werder Bremen after the 1970/71 season. At Werder, top-class newcomers should bring about a sporting and financial upswing. In addition to Weist, the national players Peter Dietrich , Herbert L Genealogie and his Dortmund teammate Willi Neuberger also came to the Weser. With 11th place with 31:37 points at the end of the lap, the leap among the best was not successful. Weist had scored 13 goals in 28 games and was the most accurate Bremen shooter. Weist never got past 11th place with Werder. He did not experience a really successful round with Werder Bremen. From 1971 to 1977 he played 145 games in the north and scored 53 goals. After the 1976/77 round he broke the tents in Bremen and moved to the Stuttgart Kickers for a round in the 2nd Bundesliga . After that year (10 games, 1 goal) he ended his career at the age of 29.

He had seen international assignments in 1970 and 1971 for the DFB in the junior national team. Werner Weist scored three goals in three games against England, Albania and Poland, and scored once in each game.

After the career

Werner Weist played in the traditional Borussia Dortmund team until the mid-1990s . As an avowed BVB fan, he has been in charge of fan article sales at FC Schalke 04 since 1996 . His former teammate Rudi Assauer brokered this position for him. He lived with his wife in Dortmund-Nette .

Weist died on May 13, 2019 in Dortmund.
