Emma-Maria Lange (born March 11, 1921 in Wasseralfingen , Aalen district , † May 4, 2016 in Potsdam ) was a German sculptor and doll maker .

Life

Born in 1921 in the Aalen suburb of Wasseralfingen in the east of Württemberg , Emma-Maria Lange came into contact with handicrafts in her parents' business and attended evening art courses in Munich during the Second World War . After the war she studied sculpture at the Berlin-Weißensee School of Art . After returning home for a while, she lived in Kleinmachnow near Potsdam from 1955 . In 1958, Lange founded a doll factory in Berlin and Teltow . From 1960 onwards she designed classics of GDR children's television such as Pittiplatsch, Schnatterinchen or Mr. Fuchs , which appeared among other things as a companion for the Sandman .

In the following decades, Lange continued to work as a sculptor. Among other things, she created portraits of African women . In old age, works in public spaces were added, such as the Zille-Gören in the Brandenburg town of Stahnsdorf in 2012 .

In 2013, Langes Wirken was honored with an entry in the Golden Book of the Kleinmachnow community. On the occasion of her 95th birthday on March 11, 2016, the Kleinmachnow art association Die Brücke organized an exhibition of her works in the community's farm workers' house.

Emma-Maria Lange died in May 2016 at the Ernst von Bergmann Potsdam Clinic at the age of 95 as a result of a stroke she had suffered a few days earlier.
