Mortimer Morris-Goodall

Mortimer Herbert Morris-Goodall (born March 11, 1907 , † May 14, 2001 ) was a British racing driver , motorsport official and the father of behavioral scientist Jane Goodall .

Career

Mortimer Morris-Goodall, founder of the Aston Martin Owners Club , was married to author Margaret Myfanwe "Vanne" Morris-Goodall, née Joseph. The two daughters Jane and Judith were four years apart and were born on April 3rd.

The Briton began his career in the early 1930s. With an Aston Martin 1½ acquired from Aston Martin co-owner and chief engineer Augustus Bertelli , he contested the 1932 Brooklands 1000 mile race . He shared the cockpit with Charles Masters . The two drivers could not finish the race after a technical defect. In the same year he made his debut at the 24 Hours of Le Mans without much racing experience for the Aston Martin works team . His partner was Elsie , the wife of his friend Tommy Wisdom . After the failure due to bearing damage in 1933, he was in second place with co-driver Jim Elwes in 1934 when the duo had to give up after an engine failure.

After the Second World War , Morris-Goodall drove only a few races. His best result at Le Mans was ninth in 1951 . In addition to racing, he worked as a race director for various teams. In 1953 he was in Le Mans in this capacity at Jaguar worked and led Tony Rolt , Duncan Hamilton , Stirling Moss and Peter Walker on their C-type to a double victory. He contested his last race as a driver in 1955 on the Sarthe, where he was operations manager for the Maserati Tipo 61 at Camoradi Racing in 1960 , which he also looked after in the same year and in 1961 for their overall victories in the 1000 km race at the Nürburgring .
