Alec Dufty (born March 11, 1987 in Binghamton , New York ) is a former American football goalkeeper .
He currently works as a goalkeeping coach at Sporting Kansas City .
Career
Youth and amateur football
Dufty grew up in Raleigh , North Carolina and began his active career as a soccer goalkeeper in 2005 on the Appalachian State University soccer team in Boone , North Carolina. He stayed with the team until 2006 when he moved to the University of Evansville during his sophomore year in 2007 . He stayed there until 2008, being in his final two years in the All-Missouri Valley Conference selection.
During his college years he also played in the USL Premier Development League for the Raleigh Elite.
Club career
His professional career began on March 12, 2009, just one day after his 22nd birthday, when he was signed by the New York Red Bulls. He made his Major League Soccer debut on April 11 in the away game at Robertson Stadium against Houston Dynamo when he came on in the eighth minute for Danny Cepero . The game ended in a 0-0 draw. This game was supposed to be the only one in the Red Bulls' dress for him, because he was released only three days later.
After the release, he came into the MLS League-Wide Reserve Goalkeeper Pool, a "reservoir" for goalkeepers without employment in an MLS franchise. In May 2009, Dufty was retrieved by the Columbus crew . The reason for this was that the crew's regular goalkeeper, Will Hesmer , was injured and had to retire from the current game, and the substitute goalkeeper Andy Gruenebaum was the only remaining goalkeeper in the Columbus Crew team.
On February 27, 2010 he moved to AC St. Louis in the USSF D2 Pro League, where he was regular goalkeeper until the team was dissolved.
On March 1, 2011, he moved to Chicago Fire .
International
In 2007, Dufty was called up for a friendly between the US U-20 national team and Argentina. He was not used in the game.
