Danny Cepero (born April 22, 1985 in Baldwin ) is an American football goalkeeper who is currently under contract with New York Red Bulls in Major League Soccer . On his professional debut, he scored a goal with a free kick from his own half of the field.

Career

Cepero played four years as the captain for the soccer team at the University of Pennsylvania . In 2007, he was drafted in the fourth round of the MLS Supplemental Draft as the 46th pick to the New York Red Bulls . In order to collect game practice, Cepero was loaned to the Harrisburg City Islanders in early April 2008 . Since New York goalkeeper Jon Conway was suspended for 10 games for taking illegal substances, Danny Cepero came on October 18, 2008 to his debut in Major League Soccer. In his first professional game as a goalkeeper, he scored the 3-1 winner over Columbus Crew with a free kick from around 75 meters . It was also the first goal by a goalkeeper in MLS history.
