Rudolf Hausleithner (born March 11, 1840 in Mannswörth near Schwechat , Lower Austria ; † March 10, 1918 in Vienna ) was an Austrian painter.

Life

Hausleithner was born in Mannswörth as the son of the teacher Josef Hausleithner (1804–1886) and Susanne Raidl (1810–1886). Hausleithner studied at the Academy of Fine Arts Vienna under Karl Mayer (1810–1876), Johann Nepomuk Geiger (1805–1880), Carl Wurzinger (1817–1883) and attended the Academy of Fine Arts in Munich under Wilhelm von Kaulbach . His works primarily include oil paintings with romantic themes (e.g. Flower Children , The Temptation ), portraits and portrait sketches (e.g. Empress Elisabeth of Austria-Hungary , the painter Joseph Sellény etc.), petty bourgeois subjects (e.g. . Scenes from family life), historical pictures and various commissioned works (e.g. Crown Prince Rudolf visits the Vienna screw and rivet factory ; Archduke Franz Karl in the Prater ).

Hausleithner died one day before his 78th birthday in Vienna and was buried in Vienna's central cemetery.
