Harvey "The Snake" Mandel (born March 11, 1945 in Detroit , Michigan ) is an American blues and rock guitarist.

Career

Mandel played in the Chicago blues clubs and was a member of the bands of Charlie Musselwhite and Barry Goldberg before moving to the West Coast in 1967. In 1968 his debut album Christo Redentor came out, which has been followed by other recordings to this day.

From 1969 to 1970 Mandel was a member of Canned Heat for the first time and played with them at the Woodstock Festival . He then went on tour with John Mayall and played in Mayall's band for about two years with bassist Larry Taylor of Canned Heat. During this time he recorded the highly regarded USA Union album and became a sought-after studio musician. He played with Love and the Ventures , among others . Mandel was one of the candidates for the successor of Mick Taylor as guitarist of the Rolling Stones , on whose album Black and Blue (1976) he played as a studio musician on the pieces Hot Stuff and Memory Motel .

After the reunification in 2009, Mandel toured Germany in 2010 and 2011 with the band Canned Heat. In January 2014 it became known that Almond had been diagnosed with cancer in mid-2013. So he left Canned Heat to undergo treatment. An initiative by Mandel's friends and family is now trying to raise money for the therapy. An amount between $ 50,000 and $ 70,000 is targeted.
