Ernst Bengel (born March 12, 1735 in Denkendorf , † April 1, 1793 in Tübingen ) was a Württemberg superintendent .

Life

Ernst Bengel was born on March 12, 1735 in Denkendorf as the son of Johann Albrecht Bengel , who was a teacher at the Evangelical monastery in Denkendorf at the time. He attended several schools and later studied Protestant theology at the University of Tübingen . In 1766 Bengel became a pastor in Zavelstein in the northern Black Forest. Six years later, in 1772, he became a deacon in Tübingen , and in 1786 he was appointed dean . Ernst Bengel had a son, Ernst Gottlieb Bengel .
