Christian Palmer

Christian David Friedrich Palmer (born January 27, 1811 in Winnenden ; † May 29, 1875 in Tübingen ) was a professor of Protestant theology at the University of Tübingen.

Live and act

After attending the lower Evangelical seminary in Schöntal (1824-1828), he joined the Evangelical Monastery of Tübingen and studied Protestant theology at the University of Tübingen until his first official examination in 1832 . He completed his vicariate in Bissingen and Plieningen near Stuttgart. In 1836 he passed the second theological examination and then worked as a repetitionist at the Evangelical Monastery in Tübingen . In 1839 he became second pastor in Marbach / N. , In 1843 second and in 1848 first pastor in Tübingen , and in 1852 dean. Since 1846 he had a teaching position at the University of Tübingen , and in 1852 he was appointed professor of practical theology . In 1857 he was the rector of the university.

Palmer was a Swabian mediating theologian who combined science and practice on the basis of his evangelical biblical faith, and who dealt with Christianity and general education in teaching and research. Contemporaries admired his ability to present what he had grasped clearly, full of light in fluent language. He was also active as a composer.

On April 25, 1839, he married one of his piano students, Wilhelmine Bossert .
