Erik Ågren (writer)

Erik Ågren (born August 4, 1924 in Nykarleby , † March 12, 2008 in Korsnäs ) was a Finnish-Swedish writer and poet . He was Gösta and Leo Ågren's brother.

Life

Ågren became a lumberjack at the age of 13, and a few years later he went into the Continuation War . Ågren later worked for over thirty years as a construction worker, caretaker, farmhand, housekeeper and foundry worker before leaving Wärtsilä's foundry in Jakobstad in 1971 to become a freelance writer. He settled in Korsnäs in the early 1980s. Ågren was married to the writer Carita Nyström for the second time and founded the publishing house Hantverk with her in 1984 . He had three daughters and one son.

In 1973 Ågren made his debut with the novel Sårad ("Wounded"), a reckoning with war, hatred and senseless obedience. Arbetslust is an epic social review , a novel about factory workers, awakening and revolt. In Modellfilaren (1982) he sketches capitalist society and its grotesque reality. Edvin describes how he grew up and that of his brothers. In the novel Olga he draws a powerful and compassionate portrait of his mother.

In addition to novels about work, Erik Ågren has written a children's book, poetry and plays.
