Korsnäs is the westernmost municipality on the Finnish mainland. It is located around 50 kilometers southwest of the city of Vaasa on the coast of the Gulf of Bothnia . Including the offshore islands and skerries, it covers an area of 234 square kilometers and has a total coastline of around 320 kilometers. In addition to the parish village of Korsnäs, it includes the villages of Korsbäck, Molpe, Taklax, and Harrström. The largest islands are Bredskäret, Halsön and Södra Björkön.
Korsnäs, Molpe and Harrström were first mentioned in the 15th century. Until the communal independence in 1887, Korsnäs belonged to the municipality of Närpes .
The parish church of Korsnäs was built in 1831 by Carl Ludwig Engel in the neoclassical style.
The ore mine, in which silver-bearing galena was mined as the main mineral until 1970, was significant . Attractive crystallized mineral specimens of apophyllite , harmotome and calcite made the mine famous. In addition to the minerals mentioned, there were about 20 other types of mineral.
