Mina Assadi

Mina Assadi ( listen ? / I ; born March 12, 1943 in Sari , Iran ) is an Iranian poet and author who has lived in exile in Sweden since 1978. She is known for writing on controversial and provocative topics, especially when describing the struggle against the Iranian regime. Audio file / audio sample

Life

Mina Assadi published her debut book Minas Gift at the age of 18. She then worked as a journalist for Iranian magazines and wrote articles for the daily Keyhan newspaper . In 2007 she wrote the poem Pimps (Djakesha), which was controversial and felt by many readers to be too vulgar. The poem is about those in Iran and in exile who forgot to live the struggle.

Mina Assadi has lyrics for Iranian singers such as Ebi (Halah), Dariush (Zendegi jek Basie and Ahay javoon), Hayedeh (Onkeh jek rosi barajeh man khoda bod), Giti (Oje parvaz), Ramesh (To aftabi, to baroni) and Nooshafarin (Koh he ghavei) written.

Her writings are compared with contemporary Persian authors such as Forugh Farrochzad , Simin Behbahani and Parvin E'tesami , as well as with the texts of Karl Vennberg and the Swedish poet Edith Södergran .

So far she has published 14 books in Persian , of which the book Who Throws Stones (Che kasi zang miandazad) received the greatest attention.

Awards

In 1996 she won the Hellman / Hammett Grant from Human Rights Watch in New York .
