Simin Behbahani
Simin Behbahāni ( Persian سیمین بهبهانی; * July 20, 1927 in Tehran , Iran ; † August 19, 2014 ibid) was an Iranian writer and chairwoman of the Iranian Writers' Association.
Life
Behbahāni was born into a literary family. Her father Abbas Chalili was a poet and editor of the Eghdām newspaper . He translated large parts of the Shahnama into Arabic.
Simin wrote her first poems at the age of 14 in the novel style of Tschâr Parreh (four-line stanzas) by Nima Youschidsch . Their collection of Ghazal s (traditional poems) is remarkable.
Her constant commitment to writers in Iran and to women's rights is also worth mentioning. In her function as chairwoman of the Iranian Writers' Association, she was widely recognized in the cultural life of Iran. Simin Behbahani has been criticized by the Iranian left for portraying a nationalist image in Iran's opposition media. Politically, she fought on the side of nationalist movements.
Simin Behbahāni died of heart failure on August 19, 2014 at the age of 87 in a hospital in her native Tehran .
