Erich V. (Hoya)

Erich V. von Hoya (* 1535 ; † March 12, 1575 ) was Count of Hoya from 1563 to 1575 .

Erich was the son of Jobst II von Hoya and his wife Anna von Gleichen . Initially, a spiritual career was planned for Erich. He was canon in Bremen , Cologne and Strasbourg . After his older brother Albrecht died childless in 1563, Erich ruled the county of Hoya together with his younger brother Otto .

In 1568 Erich married Armgard von Rietberg . At the same time, his brother Otto married Armgard's mother, Agnes von Rietberg (née von Bentheim-Steinfurt ). At the same time he took over the government of the Harlingerland for his wife and her sister, Walburga, who was still underage - an inheritance from the father of the two count's daughters.

At the end of the Reformation , he issued a Lutheran church ordinance in 1573 for his counties Hoya, Rietberg and Bruchhausen and for the lords of Esens, Stedesdorf and Wittmund (Harlingerland).

The marriage of Erich and Armgard remained childless. After Erich's death, Armgard married Count Simon VI. to the lip . The county of Rietberg and the Harlingerland fell to Walburga. His brother Otto took over the government until he died in 1582 as the last Count of Hoya, who was also childless.
