Heinrich Gade (born November 11, 1816 in Liebenau ; † September 7, 1910 ) was a German pedagogue and local history researcher who worked as a teacher in Nienburg / Weser for many years .

Life

Gade grew up in Liebenau and attended elementary school there. As a fourteen-year-old, after morning lessons in wind and weather, he walked from Liebenau to Nienburg twice a week, where he took part in drawing lessons from the painter Steinicke.

After completing elementary school in Liebenau Gade moved to Hanover and learned at the court painter Günther the painter profession . In 1836 he was appointed journeyman, but had the desire to become a teacher. With the support of Pastor Friedrich in Liebenau and the superintendent Parisius, he succeeded in getting into the preparande and then into the teachers' seminar . Gade then held teaching positions in Rehburg , in Lohhof near Verden and in Liebenau. In 1847 he got a job at the elementary daughter class in Nienburg and from 1866 at the Royal Building Trade School in Nienburg, but initially continued teaching in the daughter class and as a drawing teacher at the Progymnasium. In 1883 he retired. Gade joined the Freemason lodge Georg in Nienburg for the silver unicorn .

In addition to his professional activity, Gade carried out research on the history of the local area and, from 1862, published historical accounts of various places in his closer home: the city of Nienburg and the spots of Liebenau, Hoya and Stolzenau . His two-volume main work Historical-Geographical-Statistical Description of Counties Hoya and Diepholz ... appeared after many years of preparatory work in 1901. It contained, drawn by Gade, the "views of all the churches and chapels of both counties".

The community of Liebenau declared him an honorary citizen .
