Waterfront Commission

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Waterfront Commission of New York Harbor (WCNYH) is an intergovernmental agency established in 1953 for the US states of New York and New Jersey . Waterfront , literally translated as coastline, is understood primarily in the sense of the real artificial port facilities ( quays and piers ) and the related actions and legal transactions. The Commission is to regulate across borders what is necessary for the safe operation of the ports and their ancillary facilities.

Everyday business is mainly carried out by two sub-authorities:

  • Division of Licensing / Employment Information Centers (office for licensing port workers and employment agencies)
  • Police Division (This interstate police department is responsible for the entire port area.) Headquarters are in Manhattan , Brooklyn (NY) and Newark , New Jersey .
