Cloyd Duff
Cloyd Duff (born September 16, 1915 in Marietta , Ohio , † March 12, 2000 ) was an American timpanist.
Duff studied at the Curtis Institute with Oscar Schwar until 1938 . Then Leopold Stokowski engaged him for a South American tour of the All-American Youth Orchestra . From 1938 to 1942 he was first timpanist of the Indianapolis Symphony Orchestra, then he held the same position with the Cleveland Orchestra until 1981 . He has also taught hundreds of students at the Cleveland Institute of Music , the Oberlin Conservatory of Music , Baldwin-Wallace College and the Aspen Music Festival . After his retirement, he gave master classes at Colorado State University , and later throughout the USA, Canada, Japan, Australia and Europe. In 1977 he was inducted into the Hall of Fame of the Percussive Arts Society .
