Karl Wilhelm Feuerbach was born as the son of Paul Johann Anselm Ritter von Feuerbach and was a professor of mathematics at the grammar school in Erlangen. During his studies he became a member of the Landsmannschaft der Ansbacher , was a co-founder of the old Erlanger fraternity in 1817 and joined the old Freiburg fraternity in 1820 .

In May 1824 he was persecuted by demagogues and arrested and taken to Munich. He made two suicide attempts while in custody. In May 1825 the investigative proceedings against him were dropped and he was released as innocent. The consequences of imprisonment, however, were at least temporarily manic depression by 1827 at the latest.

The so-called Feuerbach circle of a triangle, which he describes in his treatise from 1822, is named after him.
