Rita King
Rita König (born March 12, 1977 in Satu Mare , Socialist Republic of Romania ; at times also Rita König-Römer ) is a German foil fencer . She was multiple German single champion , five-time European champion, two-time world champion and won two medals at the Olympic Games.
Life
Rita König is one of the national fencers of Sathmarschwabian descent, as well as Monika Weber and her sister Susanne König . Rita König started for the Tauberbischofsheim fencing club and attended the Tauberbischofsheim commercial school . In 1991, 1992 and 1993 she was awarded the German Youth Sports Prize. The junior world champion from 1995 then narrowly missed participation in the Olympic Games in Atlanta in 1996, when she was trained by Lajos Somodi , fifth in the German foil rankings . In 1999 she became team world champion. At the games in 2000 she won the individual silver medal as well as the bronze medal with the team. She worked as a trainer in the TG Würzburg and discovered the fencing talent Leonie Ebert there . In addition, König was head of Sport Marketing GmbH at the Tauberbischofsheim fencing center until 2018 .
After a surprising comeback at Future Fencing Werbach , König won the gold medal with the foil team at the German Fencing Championships 2019 at the age of 42.
