from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Erich II (* around 1288 ; † March 12, 1325 ) was Duke of Schleswig or Sønderjylland from 1312 to 1325 . He was the only legitimate son of Duke Waldemar IV. Erichssohn von Schleswig. His grave is in the cathedral church of the city of Schleswig .

Live and act

Erich was the first duke from the Abel line, which included the ruling dukes in Schleswig from 1232-1375. Erichssohn was inherited with Schleswig at the beginning of July 1312 before Warnemünde . This took place in the Principality of Rostock , since 1301-1323 it was a fiefdom of the Danish crown. Eric II also tried to obtain his enfeoffment with the island of Langeland . His uncle Erich Erichssohn Langbein (* 1272, † 1310), who died without leaving children, was enfeoffed with Langeland in 1295. King Eric VI. Menvedstruggled with peasant unrest and aristocratic revolts in different parts of the Kingdom of Denmark; therefore, on August 9, 1313, he concluded a settlement with Duke Erich, who thereby came into possession of the crown property in Schleswig.

However, there were still disagreements and arbitrations between the two almost every year. In 1318 Duke Erich took Langeland from Erich Langbein's widow, Sophia Burghard's daughter of Querfurt-Rosenburg († 1325), daughter of Burchard VIII, Burgrave of Magdeburg and his first wife Judith of Saxony, the widow of King Erik IV . After the death of King Eric VI. In November 1319 there was a brief controversy between Erich II and the royal brother Christoffer , who was elected king in early 1320. Duke Erich now achieved his enfeoffment with Langeland, thus he had well secured his rule in the Duchy of Schleswig.

family

Erich II married Adelheid Heinrich's daughter of Schauenburg, Countess of Holstein-Rendsburg († January 1350) in 1313. Their children were Waldemar , who was underage when their father died, and Helvig, who was married to King Waldemar IV. Christoffersson Atterdag in 1340 .
