Bruno Uher

Bruno Uher (born March 12, 1912 in Vienna ; † October 31, 1976 in Vienna ) was an Austrian musician, conductor , composer and arranger .

Life

Bruno Uher appeared in public as a composer at the age of 14. When he was 17, he was given the task of arranging the jazz for the Vienna premiere of Fred Raymond's musical comedy The Virgin of Avallon . At 18 he composed the soundtrack for the first Austrian speech and sound film, Stormy Night (director: Kurt Blachy ). The songs in it, Tell me, you love me and my dearest is a sailor , were played on radio broadcasts. In 1931 Uher arranged international jazz numbers for Charly Gaudriot's orchestra . In 1934 he composed with Karl Inwald (1902–?) The music for the revue We send love by Fritz Grünbaum and Artur Kaps .

Uher, trained in classical music, became known as a composer of film, theater and hit music, especially after the Second World War . He had his first success in 1936/37 with the Viennese song I hired a servant for Grinzing . Over the years this song has been sung by many interpreters, including Hermann Leopoldi , Peter Igelhoff , Hans Moser , Peter Alexander and Wolfgang Ambros .

In December 1942 von Uher was reported as a private radio operator .

In 1943 Uher's stage arrangements and compositions were performed at the Wiener Stadttheater ( waltz rooms ) and at the Löwinger stage ( The Flour Baroness by Rolf Gordon).

From 1946 onwards, Uher was the resident composer of the Vienna Art Theater, which opened in the Fürstenhof (Vienna-Leopoldstadt, Praterstrasse 25) in 1945 and closed in 1951 .

In the 1950s and 1960s, Uher was director of his own dance orchestra, with whom he recorded Ralph Benatzky's music for the feature film Verklungenes Wien (director: Ernst Marischka ) in 1951 and played at the Vienna Opera Ball in 1956 . In 1950 Uher developed a new musical version of Franz von Suppès' operetta Fatinitza for the Gärtnerplatztheater in Munich , which represents a profound intervention in the style of the original, with some more modern dance rhythms.

In 1962 he wrote the music and the lyrics for the Austrian contribution to the Eurovision Song Contest . The song was sung by Eleonore Schwarz . He wrote the music for many films of the 1950s and 1960s. These include Viennese stories , The Chaste Adam and Scandal in Ischl .

Bruno Uher, who suffered from circulatory and cardiac failure on October 31, 1976, was buried on November 15, 1976 in the Vienna Central Cemetery (grave 34F / 13/18), his wife, Emilie Uher (1918–2009), rests at his side. a sister of Paul Löwinger .
