József Gera

József Gera [ 'joːʒɛf' ɡɛrɒ ] (born October 24, 1896 ; † March 12, 1946 in Budapest , Hungary ) was a Hungarian pediatrician , a politician under the National Socialist regime and a war criminal .

During the First World War he received an award for bravery. He then worked as a pediatrician in Makó . Since 1939 he was a member of the Arrow Cross . Gera was a confidante of Prime Minister Ferenc Szálasi , the Hungarian fascist party leader and founder of the right-wing extremist "Party of National Will". In 1937 this party became the Arrow Cross, a National Socialist party in Hungary , led by József Gera and his secretary Lajos Polgár .

Gera was sentenced to death for crimes against humanity during World War II and was hanged in public in Budapest on March 12, 1946, along with Ferenc Szálasi , Károly Beregfy and Gábor Vajna .
