Lajos Polgár
Lajos Polgár [ ˈlɒjoʃ ˈpolɡaːr ] (* 1916 in Hungary ; † July 12, 2006 in Melbourne , Australia ; actually József Kardos ) was a Hungarian-Australian National Socialist . He is considered a suspected war criminal and lived in Australia from 1949.
Lajos Polgár was accused of crimes against humanity during World War II . Polgár was a high-ranking functionary of the Hungarian National Socialist Arrow Cross Party ( Hungarian: Nyilaskeresztes Párt ), initially as a youth leader, later as secretary to the Arrow Cross leader József Gera .
According to the Simon Wiesenthal Center , he always claimed that there was no Holocaust in Hungary .
In 1949 József Kardos fled to Australia, got asylum there and settled there as Lajos Polgár. However, he did not receive Australian citizenship until 1958 because he had given a wrong name and date of birth when he immigrated in 1949.
