Spýros Kyprianoú , Greek Σπύρος Κυπριανού (born October 28, 1932 in Limassol ; † March 12, 2002 in Nicosia ; pronounced Spíros Kiprianú , last name stressed) was a Greek Cypriot politician and President of the Republic of Cyprus from 1977 to 1988.

He married Mimi Pagathrokliton in 1956 and they had two sons, including Marcos Kyprianou , who was EU Health Commissioner until he was replaced by Androulla Vassiliou in March 2008 .

As the foster child of his mentor Archbishop Makarios - the first President of the Republic of Cyprus - he became the country's defense minister at the age of only 28 . From August 16, 1960 to June 15, 1972 he was Minister of Foreign Affairs of Cyprus.

In his honor, the largest sports arena in Cyprus was named after him, the Spyros Kyprianou Athletic Center .
