Jean Mineur
Jean Mineur (born March 12, 1902 in Valenciennes , † October 19, 1985 in Cannes ) was a French film producer and director.
Mineur was best known as the pioneer of advertising film. In 1924 he had the first commercials shown in the cinema. In 1927 he founded his first advertising company in Valenciennes, which moved to the Champs-Élysées in Paris in 1938 . The company had the memorable telephone number "Balzac 00 01". It has been called Médiavision since 1971 .
The mascot of his advertising company became famous, a cartoon man with a pickaxe who was called Petit Mineur (Little Miner). It represented the Center national de la cinématographie at the Cannes Film Festival in 1947 and 1952 .
As a director and producer, Mineur made documentaries such as Au pays où fleurit l'oranger (1943) and L'amour maternel chez les animaux (1944). In 2006 his hometown honored him with a series of exhibitions.
