Mihnea I. cel Rău ( German  Mihnea der Böse ; * around 1462; † March 12, 1510 in Sibiu , Kingdom of Hungary , today Romania ) was a son of Vlad Dracula († 1476) and from April 1508 to October 1509 voivode of Wallachia .

Life

Mihnea came from the first marriage of Vlads III. with an unknown noblewoman from Transylvania and was born around 1462. His short reign was overshadowed by power struggles with the boyar families of Wallachia, from whom he also received his nickname "the bad one". With the support of the Ottoman Empire , they finally succeeded in disempowering Mihnea and forcing them to flee to Transylvania. There he was murdered on March 12, 1510 by a hired murderer who acted on behalf of the Craioveşti family clan in front of what is now the evangelical parish church (Roman. Biserica Evanghelică ) of Sibiu. In this church he also found his final resting place.

Marriages and offspring

Mihnea was married twice, her first marriage to Smaranda Zápolya (Hungarian Szapolyai; † before 1485), her second marriage to Voica din Izvorani († after 1510). The first marriage had the sons Milos and Mircea , the second marriage the daughter Ruxandra.
