Macarena Aguilar Díaz (born March 12, 1985 in Bolaños de Calatrava ) is a former Spanish handball player .

Career

Aguilar initially played for the Spanish club Astroc Sagunto , with whom she won the championship in 2005 and the cup in 2008. In 2009 she signed a contract with SD Itxako . With Itxako, the backcourt player won the championship and the cup in 2010, 2011 and 2012. In 2011 she was also in the final of the EHF Champions League . In the summer of 2012 she moved to the Danish first division club Randers HK . In her first season in Randers, Aguilar fell twice due to injuries, which meant that she had to pause most of the games. In September 2012 she suffered a neck injury and from December 2012 she fell out due to a fatigue fracture in her left foot. In the 2014/15 season she played for the Hungarian first division club Győri ETO KC . With Győr she won the Hungarian Cup in 2015. From the summer of 2015, Aguilar was under contract with the Russian first division club GK Rostov-on-Don , but in September 2015 she moved to the Hungarian club Siófok KC . From the 2016/17 season she was under contract with the German club Thuringian HC . With the Thuringian HC she won the German championship in 2018. Then she ended her career.

Aguilar played 240 caps for the Spanish national team , in which she scored 638 goals. With Spain she moved into the final of the European Championship 2008 , which Norway won with 34:21. In 2011 she was part of the Spanish squad at the World Cup in Brazil , which won the bronze medal. A year later, Aguilar took part in the Olympic Games in London , where she also won the bronze medal. In 2014 she won the silver medal at the European Championships. She also took part in the 2016 Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro .
