Reinhard Johler

Reinhard Johler (born March 12, 1960 in Alberschwende , Vorarlberg , Austria ) is an Austrian folklorist , social anthropologist and university professor .

Live and act

Reinhard Johler studied folklore , history and cultural anthropology at the universities of Vienna , Milan and Cambridge from 1980 to 1986 and graduated in 1986 as Mag. Phil. from. In 1994 he was with the work of the formation of a custom of Dr. phil. PhD . From 1987 he was university assistant and from 2002 assistant professor at the Institute for European Ethnology at the University of Vienna. In 2002 he was appointed professor for empirical cultural studies at the Eberhard Karls University in Tübingen . From 2004 to 2006 he was vice dean and from 2006 to 2008 dean of the Faculty of Social and Behavioral Sciences. In 2004 he was a visiting professor of anthropology and sociology at the Départment des Sciences Sociales at the École normal supérieure in Paris.

Reinhard Johler was editor of the Zeitschrift für Volkskunde with Silke Göttsch from 2003 to 2007 . Contributions to cultural research . From 2008 to 2011 he was chairman of the German Society for Folklore . Since 2008 he has been head of the Institute for Danube Swabian History and Regional Studies in Tübingen and since 2011 President of the Johann Gottfried Herder Research Council .

He is a member of the International Advisory Board of the British magazine Folklore , a member of the scientific advisory board of the Ethnographic Museum Kittsee , the Danube Swabian Central Museum in Ulm and the Styrian Folklore Museum in Graz and a member of the board of trustees of the Alfred Toepfer Foundation FVS in Hamburg.
