Josef Wolf (historian)

Josef Wolf (born November 15, 1952 in Arad , People's Republic of Romania ) is a German historian .

Life

In 1971 Josef Wolf began studying history and English at the Babeş-Bolyai University in Cluj-Napoca ( German:  Klausenburg ), from which he completed his Magister Artium in 1975 . From 1975 to 1980 he worked as a research assistant at the Museum of Transylvanian History in Cluj and between 1980 and 1987 as a research assistant at the history department of the University of Cluj-Napoca. In 1990 he was appointed head of the research area historical-genetic settlement studies at the Institute for Danube Swabian History and Regional Studies in Tübingen .

Wolf's main research interests are the history of modern times and historical demography and regional history . His research area deals with the development of settlement and population geographic structures in the present and former German settlement areas in East Central and Southeast Europe, and his work topics range from settlement and population history to economic history and ethnic cartography. His tasks also include looking after the card and slide collection. He is also the chairman of the group of Banat historians .
