Gerhard Weigert

Gerhard Weigert (born August 25, 1924 in Geyer ) is a German trade unionist and Lower Saxony politician of the SPD .

Life

After graduating from high school, Weigert did vocational training at the Deutsche Reichsbahn in Berlin. He then did military service and became a prisoner of war. In 1947 he acquired additional vocational training with a degree as a craftsman. He became youth leader of the DGB in Wolfenbüttel .

Weigert has been a member of the SPD since 1950. From 1951 he was managing director of the food-enjoyment-restaurants union in the Wolfenbüttel-Salzgitter-Helmstedt district, and later he became deputy chairman of the Lower Saxony-Bremen district. For a time he was also chairman of the board of the general local health insurance fund Wolfenbüttel and chairman of the supervisory board of the non-profit housing facility eG Wolfenbüttel .

Weigert was a council member in Wolfenbüttel, chairman of the parliamentary group and district council as well as a member of the Lower Saxony state parliament for the 8th electoral period from November 25, 1976 to June 20, 1978.
