Henriette Nissen-Saloman
Henriette Nissen-Saloman , nee Henriette Nissen , (born March 12, 1819 in Gothenburg , † August 27, 1879 in Bad Harzburg ) was a Swedish opera singer (mezzo-soprano).
Life
Nissen studied piano with Frédéric Chopin and singing with Manuel Garcia in Paris . She made her debut at the Italian Opera in 1843 alongside Giulia Grisi as Adalgisa in Vincenzo Bellini's opera Norma . From 1845 to 1848 she made an extremely successful concert tour through Italy, Russia, Norway, Sweden and England. She became famous with leading roles in the operas La sonnambula , Norma , Lucrezia Borgia , Lucia di Lammermoor and Ernani . At the Leipzig Gewandhaus Concerts and in Berlin she was a serious competitor of the popular Jenny Lind . In Berlin she married the violinist and composer Siegfried Saloman .
From 1859 Nissen taught singing at the Saint Petersburg Conservatory . In 1881 her textbook The Study of Singing was published , which was also published in French and Russian translation.
