Gustav Wilhelm Struckmann

Gustav Wilhelm Struckmann (born October 31, 1796 in Osnabrück ; † March 12, 1840 there ) was a German lawyer and author.

Life

Gustav Wilhelm Struckmann was born as the son of the secretary of the magistrate Johann Gerdt Struckmann († March 15, 1831), his mother died in 1836. He was the third of four sons, his sisters were Anna Margarete Louise Struckmann (* March 31, 1792; † July 29, 1865) and Margareta Elisabeth.

He attended the Ratsgymnasium Osnabrück and began studying law and art history at the University of Göttingen at Easter 1814 .

In the spring of 1818 he returned to Osnabrück and was accepted into the law firm as an auditor after the first state examination in law.

In the autumn of 1818 he went on a trip to Italy with friends, including Johann Friedrich Böhmer , and first traveled to Rome via Switzerland . He stayed there for a long time and then traveled on to Naples . In the late summer of 1819 he returned to Osnabrück. From this trip he brought additions to the copperplate engraving collection of his grandfather, the businessman Johann David Struckmann (1721–1784).

In 1821 he passed the second state examination in law at the Higher Appeal Court in Celle and was then accepted as an assessor in the firm in Osnabrück. In 1822 he became a real judicial advisor at the court in Osnabrück.

From 1826 until 1835 he wrote 20 " articles on the knowledge of Osnabrück property law " for the " Juristic newspaper for the Kingdom of Hanover ". In 1836 he wrote some works on " Legal cases from the area of ​​Osnabrück property law ".

In 1837 he was promoted to Dr. hc appointed and the church council at the Church of St. Catherine in Osnabrück chosen.

On June 3, 1828, he married Sophie Johanna Charlotte Weber (born May 19, 1806 in Nordhorn ; † June 27, 1866 in Osnabrück) and had three sons and a daughter:

  • Gustav Struckmann , Lord Mayor of Hildesheim;
  • Johannes Struckmann , lawyer and member of the Reichstag;
  • Hermann Struckmann , lawyer and involved in the codification of the German Civil Code ;
  • Dorothea Elisabeth Struckmann (born April 19, 1835 in Osnabrück, † April 19, 1870 in Suzemin)

Gustav Wilhelm Stuckmann's grave is in the Johannisfriedhof in Osnabrück.
