Jakob Adam (politician)

Jakob Adam (born October 22, 1797 in Allschwil ; † March 12, 1865 ibid) was a Swiss politician and lawyer .

Life

Adam attended the college in Porrentruy and studied law in Freiburg . He was an officer in the Basel troops. In the years 1830/1831 he was on the side of the country citizens who demanded legal equality with the townspeople; he was arrested in Basel.

In the turmoil of separation , Adam was a reserved troop leader from Basel . In the new half-canton he was a tax collector and alternately district administrator and from 1844 to 1848 government councilor and judge . In 1839 he was district court president and from 1848 to 1850 chief judge .

Because of hostility, he retired from all offices in 1850. Politically he was first a representative of the movement party, but in 1860 he was anti and from 1862 on the board of the Patriotic Association.
