Jan Kapr

Jan Kapr (born March 12, 1914 in Prague ; † April 29, 1988 there ) was a Czech composer.

Life

Kapr studied at the Prague Conservatory with Jaroslav Řídký and Jaroslav Křička . From 1939 to 1946 he worked as a music editor for the Prague radio . From 1950 to 1952 he was editor-in-chief of the state music publisher Orlík , from 1961 to 1970 composition teacher at the Janáček Academy for Music and Performing Arts in Brno . He then lived as a freelance composer in Prague.

He composed an opera, a ballet, ten symphonies, a symphonic poem, an orchestral suite, two piano concertos and a violin concerto, numerous works for chamber music, piano sonatas, a cantata, choral music, songs and film scores.
