The Neisse near Skerbersdorf

Skerbersdorf , in Sorbian Skarbišecy , is a village in the northeastern part of the district of Görlitz ( Saxony ). Skerbersdorf has been part of the Krauschwitz community since 1994 . It is part of the official Sorbian settlement area in Saxony.

geography

Skerbersdorf lies on the left side of the Lausitzer Neisse and is crossed by the state road 127 from Bad Muskau to Görlitz and the Oder-Neisse cycle path on the stage between the Krauschwitz districts of Pechern and Sagar . Parts of the village are the extensions and the bee garden.

history

Archaeological finds show that the area of Skerbersdorf was inhabited as early as the Bronze Age. The town was probably founded during the settlement of Lusatia by Slavic tribes. This is indicated at least by the shape of the place as a round hamlet that extends like a square .

Skerbersdorf was first mentioned in a document in 1366 in a document from Duke Bolko II of Schweidnitz-Jauer . At that time, agriculture and forestry were the main sources of income for the residents.

In 1770 a country school is opened in Skerbersdorf, which also includes children from Sagar. It is one of the first country schools of the class rule.

After the Napoleonic Wars lost on France's side, Saxony had to cede parts of Upper Lusatia to Prussia in 1815. As a result, Skerbersdorf is assigned to the district of Rothenburg (Ob. Laus.) .

Wendisch Musta , on the opposite side of the Neisse, burned down in February 1945. Some of its residents settle in Skerbersdorf. After the end of the war, the parts of the province of Lower Silesia to the west of the Neisse were assigned to the state of Saxony, thereby completing a 130-year Prussian phase in local history.

On January 1, 1994, the communities of Krauschwitz , Sagar , Skerbersdorf, Pechern and Klein Priebus on the Neisse merged to form the unitary community of Krauschwitz.

Nine possessed men , a gardener and four cottagers have come down to us for Skerbersdorf from 1552 . 225 years later there are more economies in the village, but the social structure towards small farmers has deteriorated. There are 16 gardeners and 8 cottagers for the year 1777; possessed men are completely absent.

Between 1825 and 1925 the population grew by 76% from 200 to 352. Neither the First nor the Second World War led to long-term cuts in growth; a decline was only noticeable from 1950 onwards. In the following 50 years the population falls from 535 to below 300 and thus reaches a level last recorded in the second half of the 19th century.

When Arnošt Muka compiled statistics on the Sorbs in Lusatia in the 1880s, he counted 209 Sorbs and 27 Germans in Skerbersdorf . This corresponds to a Sorbian population of 89 percent. It should be noted that its total number of 236 (1884) deviates unusually strongly from the census (310 inhabitants in December 1885). It can therefore be assumed that he only considered the core site without any extensions.

Place name

The Sorbian name Skarbišecy means "village of the Skarbis" or "village of Skerbiš '" from the old Slavic skarbu = "treasure". In 1936, in the course of the Germanization of place names of Slavic origin, Skerbersdorf was renamed "Schönlinden". The renaming took place in 1947.
